Each of our offices exists because its regime is different enough to need someone who works inside it. A regulator in Hyderabad does not answer an email from London faster because the letterhead is impressive.

How the handover works
Continuous cover is a process problem before it is a staffing one. Ours is deliberately boring.
Overlap, not relay
Working days overlap by about two hours at each seam. An open incident is talked through live between the outgoing and incoming engineer, never left in a queue.
One written record
State, next action and the decision authority for each open item, in one place. If the record is not good enough for someone waking up cold to act on, it is not good enough.
One escalation route
Whichever office is on watch, escalation reaches the same principal. You do not learn three sets of names.
